To classify an area as “forest” according to the FAO definition, if the woody vegetation currently or is projected to exceed 10% canopy cover with trees reaching or expected to reach a height of 5 meters or more, it should be considered as such. For instance, even young stands not meeting these criteria yet but anticipated to in the future, as well as temporarily unstocked areas where the predominant land use remains forest, fall under this classification.
