Dear all,
Is the bonded leather included in the EUDR? We sometimes use bonded leather for some high-end case-bound book covers. We have found that our supplier does not provide the necessary geolocation data, etc., for the EUDR, which has caused significant concern among our customers.
Thanks!
Kind regards,
steven

Hi Steven,
I completely understand your concern many companies are encountering similar challenges with the EUDR.
Bonded leather is covered, as it is derived from cattle, one of the seven regulated commodities. The regulation applies based on specific HS codes, and for leather these include codes such as 4101, 4104 and 4107. Bonded leather typically falls under these, which means suppliers are required to provide geolocation and due diligence data proving deforestation-free origin.
If your supplier cannot currently provide this, it could present a compliance risk under the EUDR, so engaging them early or exploring alternative sources may be necessary.
The rule of thumb is that if the HS code of the product you are selling is in Annex 1 of the EUDR, and the product contains a relevant commodity, then the product is in scope.
I hope this helps!
Best,
Hannah
