“Simplifying sustainability reporting is a step forward – but are we at risk of losing depth for the sake of efficiency?”
With EFRAG’s proposed reductions to ESRS data requirements and growing calls for ‘progressive de-bureaucratization’, how do we strike the right balance between regulatory relief and real environmental impact?

Hi Jada,
in my point of view the simplification is a good step, especially with the VSME standard. I guess many SMEs wouldn’t be able to handle the full ESRS requirements at all, so this lighter version opens the door for broader participation.
At the same time, stakeholders – investors, customers, even employees – still expect meaningful insights. I guess we need to avoid that reports are becoming a box-ticking exercise instead of a real driver for impact. Nevertheless one should not hide behind obligations and should create more of a sense of duty when it comes to transparency. What is your opinion and how do you handle balance regulatory and real environmental impact?
