Are there any exceptions or special features to consider with regard to olive wood? Usually only branches and not the entire trees are harvested. Does the deforestation risk still have to be analysed as normal?

In general, the EUDR does not distinguish between different types of wood. However, in the case you describe, it is questionable whether deforestation, as defined by the Regulation, has occurred. According to the EUDR, deforestation is defined as the conversion of forest to agricultural use, whether human-induced or not. If only branches are harvested from trees, it seems unlikely that such activity constitutes a conversion of forest land.
However, it may be necessary to assess whether forest degradation has occurred. This depends on the extent of the structural changes caused by the harvesting activity, among other factors.
